Altar Group was founded in October 1994 as a personal initiative of Mayte Dominguez, actress, language teacher, dancer, translator and journalist (Cáceres) and Pablo Bethencourt, pianist, journalist, poet and composer (Tenerife), motivated by artistic concerns. Later he joined, Margarita Barreto, mezzo-soprano, violinist and choir director, integrated, parallel, notable individuals such as Luis Estévez, violin, Virginia Aparicio, viola, Jose Maria Manero, cello, components of National Orchestra and Choir of Spain . In recent years they have collaborated with the Raman Manuel Peralta, a dancer, and Naito of San Fernando, dancer, starting thus a unification of four art forms: music, poetry, Spanish dance and visual arts to illustrate the lyric stage. Among the artists who have joined are Altarpiece, Manel Palahí sculptor, in digital art: Carmelo Llamas, Pablo Bethencourt Alfred Battle. Among the many painters who have worked with us emphasize: Matilde Alonso, Rosamaria Lorenzo Becerril and Beatriz Moguel Strugo.

Since its inception, the group embark on an intense performances with poetry recitals in concert halls and cultural centers in Madrid and other cities. The result of this work leads us to the recital, with piano accompaniment improvised on original themes. After a long period of recitation and poetry reading, the group return raises the steps taken by actor and dubbing director, Salvador Arias, the interpretation of lyric texts. The difference between these forms of poetic expression above was crucial to bring the public a difficult and peculiar art as poetry, only a minority wrong destination.

Spaces frequented by the group to carry out this work are the festivals, ceremonies, symposia, performances, book fairs, conferences, concerts, poetry recitals, meetings and conferences, etc. .., which usually requires frames theaters, auditoriums, concert halls and cultural centers. C on it, Retablo has performed over 200 concerts throughout the national geography, collaborating regularly with the orchestra Camerata Schola led by José María Manero and Orchestra Castilla-La Mancha, directed by Jose Ramon Monreal, giving the proceedings the character of concert-recital.

Altarpiece has premiered more than a hundred pieces of original music Pablo Bethencourt, based on the lyrical texts of numerous poets and spread between songs, instrumentals and corals. In addition to live performances throughout Spain, we are contributing to the dissemination of poetry through CD recordings with the collaboration of other artists, such as already published two CDs: Between shadows on poems Diego Jesús Jiménez, D OUBLE National Literature Prize, and Cancionesacras, inspired by poems by José Hierro, Premio Cervantes, Antonio Colinas, National Literature Prize, Acacia and Fermin Uceta Higuera.

Altarpiece in recent years has developed its business through lecture-recital where they have been invited cultural personalities as speakers, presenting, on other occasions, poems and tributes to various poets enshrined as Carlos Bousoñy or, Francisco Brines, Claudio Rodríguez Jose Hierro, Jesús Hilario Tundidor, Diego Jesús Jiménez, Antonio Colinas, Victoriano Cremer, Manuel Padorno, León Felipe, Rafael Alberti, Luis Cernuda, Juan Ramón Jiménez, Fray Luis de Leon and Garcilaso de la Vega, in collaboration with institutions and cultural centers. On the other hand, besides the aforementioned poets, have music to lyrical texts of well known authors such as Antonio Gamoneda, Eladio Cabañeros, Francisca Aguirre, María Victoria Atencio, Manuel Rico, Antonio Carvajal, Pablo García Baena, Antonio Martínez Sarrión, José Ledesma Criado, Javier Lostaló, Felix Grande, providing her best poems. also started the meeting with poets of promoting the 70 and 80 as Juan Manuel González, Juan Carlos Mestre, Jose Mendez, Martin and Pablo Bethencourt Sabas. Currently the group is studying the classics of Spanish poetry: Gonzalo de Berceo, Archpriest of Hita, Marqués de Santillana, Jorge Manrique, Garcilaso, Quevedo, Lope de Vega, Góngora, Fray Luis de León and Juan de la Cruz, and Greco-Roman classics: Sappho, Pindar, Alcman, Propertius, Catullus, Horace and Virgil, to gestate a valid formula for the general public, recovering in our time, the authors laid the foundation of the Castilian lyrics and classic poetry.

Thereby, Retablo has performed over 200 concerts by closing and opening book fairs such as the Basin and Benavente and participating in the International Theatre Festival Segóbriga. Closure of the Caja Madrid Cultural Week in Barcelona, Cuenca and Benavente, and required for concert performances at the Auditorio Winterthur Barcelona and León Auditorium.
